Gaurav Gogoi is Assam Pradesh Congress Committee President and Member of Parliament from Jorhat Lok Sabha constituency. Gogoi has been a Member of Parliament three consecutive times, having been elected to the Lok Sabha first from Kaliapur in 2014, then again in 2019, and finally from Jorhat in 2024.

In the upcoming 2026 Assembly elections in Assam, the Congress party hopes to return with its candidate, Gaurav Gogoi, as its chief ministerial candidate, while the current chief minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma is seeking another term.
Polling for the elections was held on April 9 in all 126 assembly constituencies in the state, with over 2.49 crore voters participating. This year’s poll is witnessing multi-party contests due to the split between Congress and AIUDF, with Jalukbari, Dispur and Jorhat being key constituencies.

- Born in Delhi, Gaurav Gogoi is a son Tarun Gogoi, who served as the longest serving Chief Minister of Assam from 2001 to 2016. He received his B.Tech from Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University and later earned his Master’s degree in Public Administration from New York University.
- In the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, Gaurav Gogoi won from Jorhat against incumbent BJP candidate Topun Kumar Gogoi by over 7.5 lakh votes and a margin of over 1.4 lakh votes, marking a strong electoral performance.
- Gogoi has been an active member of several standing committees of Parliament, including Defence, Railways and Finance. As a Member of Parliament, Gogoi actively participated in various debates within Parliament, even opposing the passage of bills such as the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) due to its implications for Assam.
- In 2025, he was appointed Assam Pradesh Congress Committee president and took charge ahead of the 2026 Assembly elections. Since then, he has focused on strengthening the party at the grassroots level and working to revive the Congress in the state.
- Gaurav Gogoi was also at the center of a political controversy after Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma accused Gogoi’s family of having ties with organizations based in Pakistan, prompting the government to launch an investigation into the matter in 2025.
