The India Meteorological Department (IMD), Hyderabad, has issued an orange alert with severe heatwave impact till April 16, though many districts across Telangana are facing extreme heatwave-like conditions with maximum temperatures exceeding 42 degrees Celsius in 22 places.

Maximum temperatures are expected to range between 41 and 44 degrees Celsius until April 16, the IMD said.

According to weather reports issued by the Telangana State Development Planning Society (TSDPS), Macherla village in Alwar district of Nizamabad district recorded the highest maximum temperature of 43.2 degrees Celsius by 5 pm on Monday.

It was followed by 43.1 degrees Celsius in Ghanpur village in Gudipalli area of ​​Nalgonda district, 42.9 degrees Celsius in Biknor in Kamareddy district and 42.9 degrees Celsius in Echoda in Adilabad district. Hyderabad recorded the lowest maximum temperature of 40.9 degrees Celsius.

The IMD has issued an extreme heatwave alert in Telangana, with temperatures expected to rise in many districts over the next week. As per weather updates, districts including Adilabad, Asifabad, Nirmal, Nizamabad, Jagitial, Mancherial, Karimnagar, Bhupalpally, Mulugu, Nalgonda, Suryapet and Gadwal may record highs between 42°C and 45°C.

Hyderabad is also expected to witness sustained high temperatures ranging from around 40°C to 42°C, while other parts of the state may see temperatures ranging from 41°C to 43°C.

Meanwhile, Andhra Pradesh State Disaster Management Authority (APSDMA) has also warned of extreme heatwave conditions in several parts of the state. Severe heatwave is likely to prevail in 51 mandals, while heatwave is expected to prevail in other 49 mandals, a bulletin said on Monday. The impact is expected to be mainly in the northern coastal areas, with temperatures also likely to rise in coastal and Rayalaseema areas.

“Severe heatwave conditions are likely to prevail in several parts of the state,” APSDMA Managing Director Prakhar Jain said in an official statement. He also added that on Tuesday, severe heatwaves are expected in 53 mandals, while 57 mandals may witness heatwave.

While one or two places over coastal Andhra recorded 1.6 to 3 degrees Celsius above normal temperatures, many other places recorded around 40 degrees Celsius on Monday, with Kurnool recording the highest maximum temperature of 42.1 degrees Celsius, the IMD bulletin said.
