Three years ago, Angel Studios became a box office sensation Voice of freedoma hit film released amid the 2023 labor strikes that overtook a number of Hollywood pillars and put the new studio on the map.
While it never again reached the heights of $250 million Voice of freedomAngel has directed films consistently, and has had great success with the biblical animated film David Over Christmas ($85.8 million worldwide).
On Monday, the values-driven studio arrived at CinemaCon in Las Vegas to remind theater owners that it is keeping its films flowing, and to promote its eight wide releases that have not yet been released this year.
Among them was the first look The edge of war(film), starring Jeff Daniels as President Ronald Reagan amidst a high-stakes, 1986 nuclear summit with Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev, played by Jared Harris. The film opens on August 14, and also stars JK Simmons and Hope Davis
Michael Russell Gunn’s film hails from SK Global and 2521 Entertainment.
It’s not the only historical drama on Angel’s docket. The studio released the trailer for Young Washington (Out July 3), starring William Franklin Miller as a young George Washington. John Irwin directs a cast that also includes Kelsey Grammer, Mary-Louise Parker and Ben Kingsley.
On the modern-day front, Angel has released the trailer for the Alan Ritchson and Owen Wilson film runnerThe film revolves around a man who must deliver a liver to a dying girl while eluding criminals who want the organ, which can be sold for $1 million on the black market. The film made headlines last year, when Ritchson split from his longtime manager over a dispute over the set.
Other films on Angel’s slate this year include Andy Serkis’ Animal Farm (May 1), starring Tommy Lee Jones. The angel and the evil man (October), Feature of the American Revolution Drummer boy (November 6), The Hershey’s Chocolate Story by Finn Wittrock and Alexandra Daddario Hershey (Thanksgiving), the Biblical epic zero mwhich reshapes teams Freedom Voice Director Alejandro Monteverde stars Jim Caviezel, as well as stars Sam Worthington and Ben Mendelsohn.
