Indian woman killed in road crash in US, family says she could not be saved even after 3 surgeries

An Indian woman, Navya Neelakuditi, has died after sustaining serious injuries in a car accident near Pittsburgh.

A 23-year-old Indian woman, Navya Neelakuditi, died on April 9 while undergoing treatment after a car accident in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Neelakudetti died at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital, where she underwent three major surgeries, said her aunt, Sirisha Neelakuduttu, who is raising money to send her body to India.

Navya moved to the US last year to pursue her master’s degree and was involved in an accident while returning home from an internship interview in Michigan. The other passenger involved in the accident survived.“The daughter of humble farmers in India, she moved to the United States last year to pursue a master’s degree,” the aunt, who lives in Fresico, Texas, wrote in a fundraising post. “Her parents invested everything they had in her education, and she worked tirelessly toward one goal: building a career that would support them back home.”The aunt said the money was not only meant to send her body to India, but also to cover medical and ICU expenses, and support her family in India.

About $85,835 of the $150,000 goal was raised in two days. In an unrelated incident, another NRI was found dead in Missouri. 26-year-old Singireddy Sai Sri Harikrishna, who moved to the US in 2023 to pursue a master’s degree in engineering, drowned in the Meramec River. Krisna went to Mermek State Park near Sullivan to celebrate his birthday. According to reports, when he entered the rover for a swim, he got trapped in the underwater weeds which led to him falling. He struggled, sank, and drowned on his birthday, April 11.

His friends have started a fundraiser for the family and $24,283 of the $100,000 has been raised so far.
