In a post on X, Rahul Gandhi described Himanta Biswa Sarma as the country’s “most corrupt” Prime Minister and demanded a probe into the allegations leveled by the Congress.

“The current Chief Minister of Assam is the most corrupt in the country. He will not escape the law. His misuse of state power to harass his political rivals and critics is unconstitutional. The questions raised must be investigated. Transparency, accountability of authority and rule of law are the foundation of our constitutional values. The Congress party stands with Pawan Khera. We will not be intimidated,” Gandhi wrote on X.

The Congressman’s remarks came after the Assam Police filed an application in the Supreme Court against the Telangana High Court’s decision to grant anticipatory bail for one week from April 10, subject to conditions.

As per the bail order, Pawan Khera has to approach the competent judicial court of Assam and seek appropriate relief as per law.

Congress Chief Information and Publicity Department, Pawan Khera, had claimed that Riniki Bhuyan Sharma owns three passports and that the couple, along with their son, owns a company worth $52,000 Crores in US. But the Assam CM denied the allegations.

Riniki Bhuyan Sharma had lodged an FIR against Khaira, and the Assam Police searched his house.

Earlier on April 10, Assam Congress leader Gaurav Gogoi criticized Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, saying he was “in panic mode” and his reaction was out of “desperation”.

Speaking to ANI, Gogoi said the Prime Minister was reacting strongly as he did not expect the reports to “spread so quickly”.

“I think Prime Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has completely panicked. He went into panic mode. He did not expect the reports to spread to this extent. So, for the last 5-6 days, he has literally been tearing his hair out. His desperation can be seen in his words, actions and on his face. I would just say that just by shouting, truth does not become a lie; just by showing that you have the ability to investigate, does not mean the truth becomes fiction,” Gogoi said.
