Top political leaders across the country have offered condolences over the death of legendary Bollywood singer Asha Bhosle who passed away at Mumbai’s Breach Candy Hospital on Sunday where she was admitted to the ICU in a critical condition on Saturday evening due to heart and respiratory problems. She was 92 years old and had been ill for the past few months.

President Murmu says: A big void in the music world
President Draupadi condoled Murmu with Asha’s death and said that she had created a huge vacuum in the world of music. In a post on X, Murmu said that her legendary career as a popular singer defined the era of music in India.
“Asha Bhosle ji’s passing has created a huge vacuum in the world of music. Her legendary career as an iconic singer defined the era of music in India,” the president said.
Murmu said she has fond memories of interacting with Bhosle in person.
“She lived her life on her own terms as an artist and as an individual. With her melodious and timeless voice, she influenced Indian music for decades,” the President said.

It is very sad, says CM Fadnavis
CM Fadnavis described her death as “extremely sad”.
“The beautiful garden of melodies seems deserted today. Asha Tai’s voice was the soul of music. She was like an evergreen spring of song and a melodious ocean of emotions,” the Maharashtra Chief Minister said as he remembered Asha for her versatility as a singer. “Thai” is the Marathi word for elder sister.

“She has sung more than 12,000 songs in 20 Indian and foreign languages, including Marathi, Hindi and Bengali. Besides awards like Maharashtra Bhushan, she has also bagged the Bangla Vibhushan award. She is a multi-talented singer and has embraced change naturally. There will never be another like her,” he said.
Tributes are pouring in for Asha Bhosle
Deputy Chief Minister Sunetra Pawar also expressed grief over Asha’s death and described her as the “Empress of Melody”.
“Achatai Bhosle’s musical journey is a symbol of hard work, perseverance and unwavering dedication to her art. She has enchanted listeners across generations with her melodies. Her passing is a huge loss to the Indian music world,” Sunetra wrote on X.
An immortal voice in the Indian music world has been lost, Nationalist Congress Party (SP) chief Sharad Pawar said after Asha’s death.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah also praised Asha, saying that she not only carved a unique identity through her “sweet voice” and “unparalleled talent” but also influenced Indian music through her melodies.
“Today is a sad day for every Indian, especially for every music lover like me, because our beloved Asha Bhosle ji is no longer with us,” he wrote on X.
In a post on X, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari said that Asha has raised India’s pride globally. The news of the death of the Padma Vibhushan awardee is painful, the senior BJP leader said in an X post.
Gadkari said he shares a family bond with Asha Bhosle, who attended his 61st birthday celebrations in Mumbai and blessed the occasion with a song.
Born in 1933, Bhosle, known for her immense contribution to Indian cinema, was the younger sister of the legendary Lata Mangeshkar. The sisters have been the voice behind most Bollywood songs for decades.
Bosley’s professional singing career began in 1943 when she was only nine years old. She recorded her first film song in 1943, and by the 1950s she had carved a niche for herself in Bollywood and beyond. For the next three decades, she was among the most sought-after artists by most composers.
