In an interesting turn of events, Varun Dhawan, Mrunal Thakur and Pooja Hegde’s upcoming film ‘Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai’ is looking to postpone its release date from June to May 2026. The makers are eyeing May 22 as a strategic release to cash in on the summer holiday atmosphere and stay away from the tough competition in June. Read on to know more in detail.
Varun Dhawan, Mrunal Thakur and Pooja Hegde are all set to share screen space in their upcoming film ‘Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai’. The film is scheduled to arrive in cinemas in June of this year. However, as per the latest developments, the makers will be shifting the release date to May 2026.

According to a Bollywood Hungama report, the film is about to be completed, so its arrival in May will favor the makers. “The makers are seriously considering releasing the film on May 22 instead of June 12. They have realized that they can postpone the release by three weeks as the film is almost ready,” the report said.“Moreover, there is limited competition in the second half of May, and the summer break will begin,” she added.
“It will be an ideal time to bring young audiences and families to the film.”According to the report, makers have not yet made a final decision. Once this is done, the new release date of the film will be officially announced.
Box office clashes in June
The film was scheduled to hit theaters on June 5, 2026; However, the makers have postponed it to June 12 to avoid conflict with Yash’s film ‘Toxic: A Fairytale for Grown-Ups’. The Varun Dhawan star would have competed with Imtiaz Ali’s ‘Main Vaapas Aunga’ as well, as the film is scheduled to hit theaters on June 12, 2026.
On the other hand, if the film releases on May 22, it will clash with Lakshya and Ananya Panday’s project ‘Chand Mera Dil’ and Riteish Deshmukh’s ambitious project ‘Raja Shivaji’ at the box office.
