Karol G, who is set to become the first Latin artist to headline Coachella this weekend, said she wants to make a noticeable impact, especially for the Latino community, with her performances.

The Colombian star said Playboy In a recent interview, she wanted the right opportunity to advocate for her community. Especially since US Immigration and Customs Enforcement under President Donald Trump has been widely criticized for its aggressive tactics towards the Hispanic community specifically.

“People will say, ‘You better not do that,’” Karol Gee said of speaking out against ICE. “Why? Because if you say that, you might get a call the next day: ‘Hey, we’re withdrawing your visa.’ It becomes bait, because some people want to show their strength.”

Instead of saying the famous anti-ICE phrase “ICE Out” which many other celebrities, such as Bad Bunny, have also said in the past, the “Si Antes Te Hubiera Conocido” singer admitted that she wanted to make a statement that would have more meaning.

“I have a huge stage, so that’s why I want to wait, and if someone does something to me, I want to stand firm on stage for my community,” Karol G said about her upcoming performance at Coachella. “That’s why I may have to be more careful, wait for my turn, and make sure that with this opportunity, I can speak and represent something more.”

“What is the real impact of saying ‘ICE Out’ versus something else that can have a real impact on my community?” I also asked.

“I don’t want to just say ‘ICE Out’ and nothing come of it,” the “PROVENZA” artist continued. “Maybe I’ll go a little harder than that. I just want to represent my community. But what I’m telling you is that, as a human being, I want it to mean more. I’m not saying I won’t do it; what I’m saying is I will do it and I’ll do it with my soul. But I want to sit down and understand, in my head: Here’s what that means“.

Following headlining performances by Sabrina Carpenter and Justin Bieber at Coachella on Friday and Saturday this year, Karol G is set to hit the main stage on Sunday night the next two weekends.
