Rajasthan High Court stays bail order against Salman Khan over 'misleading advertisements'

Jaipur, April 7, 2019 (IANS) Actor Salman Khan has obtained relief from the Rajasthan High Court, which stayed the bail warrant issued against him by the Jaipur District Consumer Commission II.

The Rajasthan High Court has granted Bollywood actor Salman Khan relief from the bail order issued against him by the Jaipur District II Consumer Commission. Following the order passed by a bench of Justice Anoop Singhi, Khan is no longer required to appear before the panel on April 13.

According to IANS, the date was earlier fixed as the actor’s ‘last chance’, failing which warrants for his arrest would be issued.

About cast against Salman Khan

The case stems from a complaint filed by Yogendra Singh Badyal, alleging misleading advertisements by Rajshri Pan Masala and its brand ambassador Salman Khan. The products were promoted as “saffron infused cardamom” and “saffron infused paan masala”. “Such claims create a false impression of safety and quality, while it is widely known that paan masala consumption is associated with serious health risks, including cancer,” Badyal said. On January 6, 2026, the Authority imposed a temporary ban on the promotion and advertising of these products. However, advertisements reportedly continued on January 9, including billboards across Jaipur, Kota and other cities, which the commission considered a violation of its order.

Salman Khan challenges the system

In March, Salman and the pan masala company reportedly appealed the advance orders, stating that action over misleading advertisements should be initiated only by the Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA), New Delhi, or authorized officials.

They also claimed that the complainant did not qualify as a “consumer”. However, according to reports, a bench led by Justice Devendra Kachhawa, along with Judicial Member Arun Kumar Agrawal and Member Liaquat Ali, responded that centralization of these powers in New Delhi could hamper effective relief to consumers across India.

Consumer Commission issues bail orders against Salman Khan

The Consumer Commission has issued bail orders against Salman Khan on four occasions, although they have not been successfully implemented. During a recent hearing, the committee expressed its strong dissatisfaction and warned of stricter action in case of non-compliance.The Committee noted that celebrity status does not place anyone above the law, and noted that repeated failure to appear despite arrest warrants undermines public confidence in the justice system. She even directed the Director General of Police to form a task force to implement the arrest warrant in Mumbai, but the operation remained unsuccessful.
