Shah Rukh Khan and superstar Rajinikanth may not be together on screen after all. The Bollywood star was eagerly anticipating his appearance on Rajinikanth’s sets this month as he was reportedly set to essay a cameo role in the upcoming film ‘Jailer 2’.
However, according to the latest reports, Khan has allegedly opted out of the project, choosing instead to focus on his upcoming film ‘King’.

According to a report on Pinkvilla, the makers of ‘Jailer 2’ have approached Khan for a special appearance which will take around 5 days to shoot. Initially, the actor was “open to the idea”, even requesting that the “Jailer 2” version be compatible with the “King” movie, as he wanted his look to remain exclusive to that film.
“He has a certain look in King, and he doesn’t want to have the same thing in any other movie before.”However, Khan eventually declined in order to maintain exclusivity around his screen presence, “especially as it marks the launch of his daughter Suhana on the big screen.”Khan is said to have personally spoken to Rajinikanth and expressed his desire to collaborate on a future project.
“Prison 2” is almost finished
The makers of ‘Jailer 2’ had reportedly planned to release it in August and were looking to shoot Khan’s part in April.
The filmmakers are now reportedly exploring other options to fill the cameo role. The makers recently announced that the film is almost complete and the project has entered the final post-production stage.

On the other hand, ‘King’ is directed by Siddharth Anand and features an ensemble cast including Deepika Padukone, Abhishek Bachchan, Anil Kapoor, Jackie Shroff and Arshad Warsi. The film is scheduled to be released in theaters on December 24, 2026, where it will hit a number of box office heavyweights. Since the film’s release comes just days after “Avengers: Doomsday” and “Dune: Part Three”, it will face stiff competition at the box office. The film will also clash with “Jumanji 3,” which is also scheduled for a Christmas release.
