Who is Sarinsadat Hosseini? Granddaughter of Iranian General Qassem Soleimani arrested by Immigration and Customs Enforcement in a raid in Los Angeles

Sarinsadat Hosseini, a 25-year-old relative of slain Iranian general Qasem Soleimani, has come under scrutiny after her arrest by US immigration authorities in Los Angeles.Al-Husseini is the granddaughter of Soleimani, the former commander of Iran’s Quds Force who was killed in a US drone strike in 2020.Hosseini entered the United States in 2015 on a student visa and later obtained lawful permanent residency (green card) in 2023. Her mother, Hamida Soleimani Afshar, is Soleimani’s niece and had previously been granted asylum and then a green card. The two women were arrested by US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) after the US State Department revoked their residency status.

Officials said the action was taken due to alleged links to the Iranian regime.US authorities specifically pointed to Afshar’s activities, alleging that she promoted Iranian government propaganda, supported the Iranian Revolutionary Guard, and expressed anti-American views on social media while living in the United States. Hosseini was detained with her mother after their legal status was revoked.

Both women are now in ICE custody and facing deportation from the United States.Hosseini has been living in the United States for several years, and has shared aspects of her lavish lifestyle on social media, including cross-country travel, expensive cars, and luxury clothes. The arrests are part of a broader move by US authorities targeting individuals believed to have ties to or support foreign regimes deemed hostile to the United States, particularly amid rising tensions involving a war with Iran. There is no indication from US authorities that Hosseini herself has been charged with a criminal offense. The action taken against her is related to her immigration status and national security concerns, after her green card was revoked.
