Election Commission officials said that two people have been arrested after Congress MP Shashi Tharoor was obstructed and verbally abused by a group of youths in Keralam’s Wandoor district.

According to election authorities, strict action has been taken in connection with the incident and an FIR has been registered. Police said the arrests were made following a complaint filed by a Tharoor militant.
The incident took place in Chilithudu, Vandoor, where a group of about five individuals allegedly blocked the movement of the MP while he was on his way to Manaliml bus stop. Tharoor was campaigning for United Democratic Front (UDF) AP candidate Anil Kumar at the time.

Officials stated that the group not only obstructed his convoy, but also verbally abused him, prompting the police to intervene immediately. The authorities confirmed that further investigations are underway and additional measures will be taken if necessary.
Earlier, Tharoor described the incident as “unwanted” but assured that it would not affect his campaign. “It was an unwanted incident and should never have happened, but I was traveling for 15 to 16 days, and this is one incident. We have put it aside and moved on,” he said.

The Congress leader also confirmed that the militant sustained minor injuries during the incident, adding that the police are dealing with the matter. He added: “We will not change anything. We will travel to everywhere we are supposed to go and spread our message to the public.”
Meanwhile, ahead of the Kerala Assembly elections, Tharoor expressed confidence in the Congress-led United Democratic Front’s victory, alleging corruption and financial mismanagement under the ruling Left Democratic Front. “They have made the Kerala model a debt model,” he said, citing concerns about financial performance.
