The sheriff who turned in Charlie Kirk’s alleged killer, Tyler Robinson, has suddenly resigned.
The sheriff who led to the arrest of Tyler Robinson in the assassination of Charlie Kirk suddenly resigned and announced his retirement. Sheriff Nate Brooksby reportedly announced his resignation on Friday after undisclosed complaints to Washington County, Utah from individuals who were concerned about operations at the Sheriff’s Office.
They said his resignation puts an end to the complaint case because the complainant does not want to pursue the matter, sparking intense speculation on social media about what might happen. Speculation increased after new legal documents claimed that the bullet used to kill Charlie Kirk did not match the gun found on Tyler Robinson. Conspiracy theories that Tyler Robinson was not the actual killer and was merely a scapegoat for the situation began to flourish again, and are now tied to Broxby’s resignation, as Broxby helped Tyler Robinson turn himself in.
Who is Broxby? What is his relationship with Tyler Robinson?
A lifelong resident of Washington County, Utah, Brooksby worked for the Washington County Sheriff’s Office for 27 years of his career, according to his campaign website. A member of the Republican Party since the age of 18, he was elected to fill the remainder of Sheriff Corey Pulsipher’s third term in November 2021 and was sworn in the following month. After Charlie Kirk was shot to death at Utah Valley University on Sept. 10, 2025, at a Turning Point USA event, Brooksby said he received a phone call from a retired deputy saying he knew who killed Kirk.
Robinson’s family reached out to the retired deputy, whom they knew through the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and asked him to help negotiate a peaceful surrender for Robinson.“Part of the negotiations to convince him to turn himself in is that we’re going to handle it as sensitively as possible to make him feel comfortable that he’s going to show up in my office,” Brooksby said after Robinson turned himself in and was arrested.“ATF was unable to match the bullet to Tyler Robinson’s gun and when news broke the sheriff resigned,” former Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene posted. “Where are all the neocons who were ‘overshadowed’ by the non-existent evidence against Tyler Robinson? You should all be ashamed of yourselves. I hope the money is worth your soul,” Candace Owens who has consistently claimed that Tyler Robinson was a cover-up doubled down after the bullet was found.
