Mamma mia! Super Mario Galaxy movie It held its first press screenings on Monday, and early reactions on social media appear to be mixed at best. Unfortunately.
While critics review the full for Super Mario Galaxy movie The embargo was in place until Tuesday, and Universal allowed press and others to post their limited reactions on social media on Monday.
A follow-up to the hugely popular 2023 franchise debut Super Mario Bros movie, Galaxy It tells the story of Mario, Luigi and Princess Peach facing off against the evil Bowser once again (this time with his son Bowser Jr.) in a galaxy-spanning adventure. Along the way they meet new characters including Princess Rosalina and Nintendo icon Yoshi.
Galaxy It once again features the primary voice cast of Chris Pratt (Mario), Anya Taylor-Joy (Princess Peach), Charlie Day (Luigi), Jack Black (Bowser), and Keegan-Michael Key (Toad). New voices for the sequel include Benny Safdie (Bowser Jr.), Issa Rae (Queen Honey), Brie Larson (Princess Rosalina), Glen Powell (Fox McCloud), and Donald Glover (Yoshi).
Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelinek return to direct Galaxy With the screenplay written by Matthew Vogel, who also wrote the first film.
Despite the muted reaction from press previews, Universal and Nintendo will be confident Galaxy It follows the path of the 2023 film, which was a global phenomenon, earning $1.36 billion in box office revenue (from a modest production budget of $100 million). Super Mario Bros. Likewise, it was not well received by critics and has a 59 percent rating on Rotten Tomatoes (with an impressive 95 percent rating with audiences).

Well, I’ll say this. For a movie designed solely to jingle keys in front of an audience… it’s pretty bad at that, too.
Why are we changing Mario lore unnecessarily? Why are there so many more Odyssey references than Galaxy? Fox is here and yet he hasn’t done anything. https://t.co/L4btrrjaas

SUPER MARIO GALAXY MOVIE faithfully recreates the visuals of popular Nintendo games and thankfully doesn’t have as many pop songs as the last film. Unfortunately, it’s marred by an unfocused plot, disjointed pacing, and a lack of heart. Some fun surprises to enjoy… pic.twitter.com/aD9mCWOkIa

#TheSuperMarioGalaxyMovie is a fun and nostalgia-filled sequel! It’s a beautifully colorful action film that lit me up. There are moments in this movie that reminded me of what it was like to play the SNES, and that alone made this experience priceless. pic.twitter.com/7c3sRjSreW

SUPER MARIO GALAXY MOVIE / #TheSuperMarioGalaxyMovie proves that cinema is still the place where we can all be kids again. It reaffirms that this saga carries a deep soul through its ability to conjure up fond memories, providing a powerful sense of ultimate escape,… pic.twitter.com/nEpkWqBdpt

SUPER MARIO GALAXY MOVIE is surprisingly much better than its predecessor, presenting interesting and reverent characters with good taste while delivering colorful, vibrant and more eye-catching visuals and action scenes that give this sequel a distinct and vibrant look… pic.twitter.com/n6IoRsuJKi

SUPER MARIO GALAXY MOVIE is whimsical, vibrant and fun in every way. The cast is pretty great, but Jack Black’s Bowser and Donald Glover’s Yoshi are absolutely fantastic. The visuals really blew up, the story is great, and those references really shine! #SuperMario_Movie pic.twitter.com/U3eobQdJig

The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is full of Easter eggs (and not just for Mario – for Nintendo too!). It’s pretty much pure chaos from start to finish in the best way possible. My girl Rosalina remains my favorite. Stay until the end! #TheSuperMarioGalaxyMovie pic.twitter.com/KxpthESwKU

#TheSuperMarioGalaxyMovie is a fun, fast-paced ride that teases out interesting lore and family dynamics, but drags its feet before you can delve any deeper. The Bowser and Jr connection was great, but I was missing another Bowser song. The ending felt abrupt. I liked him, but I didn’t love him. pic.twitter.com/kAOwO2zU3C

I’m happy to report that SUPER MARIO GALAXY MOVIE is a lot of fun! Lots of great characters and full of funny jokes. Princess Rosalina and her little stars are my favorite. Yoshi is the best player. This second part introduces us to more interesting planets. Dinosaurs and robot-like minions have been spotted in… pic.twitter.com/tVycbFKcui

#MarioGalaxyMovie is the fun hour I hoped it would be. Visually stunning animation with plenty of eye candy for Nintendo fans (some surprises too!). Too many things are packed into one story which makes it seem chaotic and unfocused. I’m still having a good time with flaws and all pic.twitter.com/6mDF0nco5U

#TheSuperMarioGalaxyMovie is the original movie powered by a star. The 100-minute sugar rush, with fan service galore, starts at 90 mph and barely stops for breath. Pretty much the same problems with the first film remain, but fans will be pleased. Full review on Tuesday. pic.twitter.com/O5wZdETlBA

Super Mario Galaxy Movie is an improvement over its predecessor in some ways and even more so in others. Great animation. Great result. Nice balance of additional characters (Star Fox being a highlight). Tons of Easter eggs. But it still has problems with the story and pacing. pic.twitter.com/wYCLLMYwqs

The Super Mario Galaxy movie is an absolute blast! A dazzling animated spectacle and one of the most enjoyable theatrical experiences of the year. The returning cast is just as great as the first time, but Fox McCloud and Yoshi absolutely steal the show. Full review on… pic.twitter.com/ovvtiPigEh
