Amidst the excitement, Bollywood stars like Aamir Khan and Boman Irani reveal that they are yet to watch it. On the other hand, Zia Mirza speaks boldly: “There is a tendency to enjoy and celebrate chauvinism.”

Zia recently spoke on the Namrata Zakaria Show about the criticism her team IC 814 has faced over the Kandahar hijacking series. ‘Dhurandhar’ was labeled a ‘disgusting film’, while IC 814 faced heat for taking a different tack. “The show was called upon to humanize all the characters, including the terrorists,” she said.

I think it’s because we celebrate chauvinism so much now. We adore that. There is a tendency to enjoy and celebrate chauvinism, which is not the case with our show. I don’t regret it. It has a balanced vision and gives people the opportunity to see each side as it was.

Dia Mirza urges artists to speak up

With industry voices taking a back seat to the film, Diya highlighted why artistes need to raise their voices. “I think it is very important that we speak out as artists. I am the great Shabana Azmi Bhakt, and I follow her message that if art is not used to improve the lives of others, then what is the point of art.
