The deceased have been identified as Subhash Khan of Khod, Ishant Khan (10) and Jaid Khan (8), both of Bhiwadi in Rajasthan.

The trio had gone out for a walk when the accident occurred around 11pm on Friday. The three were taken to the Community Health Center in Pataudi, where doctors declared them dead on arrival.

An eyewitness said that the vehicle was traveling at high speed. “The incident ended between a tree on the side of the road and an electric pole. The driver called someone, after which another car arrived at the scene, where the driver got into it and fled the scene within minutes without helping the victims,” he said, adding that the entire incident was recorded on surveillance cameras near the scene, which were seized by the police.

Ishant and Jaid live in Bhiwadi and were visiting their maternal grandfather Subhash, a villager said. “Subhash had taken the duo to meet his younger brother and was returning home with the minors after dinner when Thar beat them up,” he said.

The station house officer (SHO) of Pataudi police station, Braham Prakash, said that the driver who had become involved has been identified and will be arrested soon.

“An FIR under Sections 106 (causing death by negligence) and 281 (rash driving) of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) will be registered against the raging driver once the family members of the deceased persons file a written complaint against him after his arrival from Rajasthan.”

Investigators said the thar, which had a Gurugram registration number, was owned by a man from Insha Puri, a village adjacent to Khud. However, it was driven by the owner’s brother-in-law.
