Perez Hilton dropped the “most important video I’ve ever shared.”
The celebrity gossip blogger took to his Instagram account on Monday to share an update on his health after being hospitalized for three weeks, as well as how God “presented Himself to me” amidst this difficult experience.
“My stupidity landed me in the hospital for 21 days, and it was the worst and best thing that has ever happened to me,” he began in the lengthy video (below).
Before being admitted to the hospital, Hilton said he had been suffering from the flu for a week. However, he was taking all his medications without food, even though he was supposed to.
He recounted that that’s when he “had an ulcer, then a puncture, then sepsis.” “The day before I was admitted to the hospital, I had severe stomach pain. I thought to myself: ‘This is strange, but it will go away.’ The next morning, I couldn’t walk. I had to be taken by ambulance to the hospital.”
Hilton said he underwent several tests, including X-rays, CT scans and ultrasounds, because doctors “couldn’t find where the hole was.” Five days later, he ended up having laparoscopic surgery.
He also had a lot of fluid around his lungs which had to be drained in addition to another “major procedure”.
“The sepsis kept setting in and my body kept breaking down,” Hilton explained. “Then one night the rapid response came because my heart was out of control. They had to give me heart medication. Then I had another infection in the hospital.”
He added: “It was a very slow process. I mean, just two weeks of being sick and then another week of getting better before I was released. And that last week was hell because I had already been in the hospital for two weeks by then. I was like, ‘I just want to go home.’ I just want to be with my kids.” Perez is a single father of three.
Since he had time to reflect after being brought home, Hilton said that’s when he realized that “one of the most special things about this experience is that God presented himself to me.”
He said in the video while crying: “It was not a feeling. God presented himself to me. I was raised Catholic… but I was not a believer yet. God presented himself to me and then did something. Something I can only describe as a miracle.” “And I was so clear. It was real and it changed my life. I’m so grateful. I’m excited to start taking the kids to church every week. And to know that God is real. … I don’t have to hope to believe. I know now.”
