On Monday, Disney released a new trailer for its upcoming live-action remake of Moana.
The film stars newcomer Katherine Lagaia as wayfinder Moana and Dwayne Johnson, who reprises his role as the trickster demigod Maui from the animated film.
Fans of the original film will recognize the scenes shown in the trailer, from Moana’s interactions with Maui to the crab obsessed with shiny objects to the lava and fire creature Te Ka, along with some familiar songs, including “I Am Moana (Song of the Ancestors).” Fans have also noticed online that Johnson has a full head of flowing locks, which suits his personality.
The cast also includes John Tui as Moana’s father, Chief Tui; Frankie Adams as Sina, Moana’s mother; And Rena Owen as Gramma Tala to Moana.

Disney describes the film as a “reimagining” of the Oscar-nominated film. The live version directed by Thomas Kail (Hamilton), with Johnson, Danny Garcia, Beau Flynn, Hiram Garcia and Lin-Manuel Miranda serving as producers. Kyle is also an executive producer alongside Scott Sheldon, Charles Neuwirth and Auli’i Cravalho, who voiced Moana in Moana and its sequel.
Moana features original songs by Miranda, Obitaya Fuai and Mark Mancina, as well as an original score by Mancina.
The film is coming to theaters on July 10.
