An Indian national living illegally in the US was detained by US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) earlier this month after causing a serious traffic accident in Indianapolis, Indiana.
25-year-old Sukhdev Singh reportedly struck a pedestrian while driving a truck along Interstate 65, sending the victim to the hospital in critical condition, according to the Daily Caller News Foundation.Singh obtained a commercial driver’s license (CDL) in New York on January 2, 2025, despite not being in legal immigration status. Indiana State Police responded to the incident on March 6 and contacted ICE, which arrived later that evening to take Singh into custody.
He remains in ICE custody awaiting the outcome of his immigration proceedings.Commenting on the incident, Deputy Assistant Secretary of Homeland Security, Loren Pace, said: “It makes sense: Illegal aliens should not be operating 18-wheelers on America’s highways. We are praying for this individual to make a full recovery.”“It is extremely dangerous for illegal aliens, who often do not know our traffic laws or even the English language, to operate 18-wheelers on American roads,” she added.
Sanctuary governors like Kathy Hochul must stop giving driver’s licenses to illegal aliens before more Americans are injured or killed.The arrest comes at a time when authorities are paying more attention to truck drivers in the United States who are living in the country illegally. Officials said there were several incidents involving undocumented truck drivers, including a February 2026 crash in Indiana that killed four members of an Amish family.The Ministry of Transport has taken steps to address this problem. In September 2025, the Department of Transportation imposed severe restrictions on non-domestic CDLs, citing a federal audit that revealed “disastrous patterns” of states issuing licenses to foreign drivers without proper oversight. Additional rules were introduced in February 2026 to eliminate loopholes that allowed foreigners with poor driving records to operate commercial vehicles.
