Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday urged people in Assam to punish Congress in the upcoming Assembly elections for encouraging illegal infiltrators and ignoring indigenous people.

“Congress has always encouraged illegal infiltrators and continues to do the same. For decades, the party has not provided land rights to the indigenous people of Assam and even handed over the land of Adivasis to infiltrators,” Modi said.
Prime Minister Modi, who began a two-day visit to the state on Friday, was addressing a public meeting in Kokrajhar virtually from Guwahati.

Prime Minister Modi was scheduled to attend the meeting, but was unable to do so due to bad weather conditions.
“The situation has become very serious in areas like Dhubri and Goalpara. I am happy that the present state government has launched a major drive to evict illegal encroachers and provide land rights to indigenous people.” He said.
“I urge everyone to punish Congress severely in the upcoming elections and send a clear message that there is no place for infiltrators in the country now. This message from Assam will soon become the voice of the nation,” Modi added.
The Prime Minister said that the Congress did not focus on development in Assam’s Bodoland region.
“Congress is a shop of lies. Besides one lie, it gives four other major lies as gifts. But the party had no desire to fulfill these promises. On the other hand, the dual engine government of BJP and NDA made sincere efforts to fulfill everything we promised,” Modi said.
“All the promises made under the 2020 Bodo Peace Agreement are being implemented one by one continuously. The Bodo language has been given the status of Associate Official Language of Assam and a special assistance package of $He added that Rs 1,500 crore has been given to Bodoland.

In Kokrajhar, the Prime Minister laid the foundation stone and announced projects worth more than that $4,570 crore including foundation stones for Assam Mala 3.0 project, road infrastructure project and foundation stones for six road infrastructure projects in Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) area.
