The past six months have been filled with so many firsts, but having Tiana and Regina by my side through it all has made it so much more fun.

“before One battlethe first group I was ever in was a show called presumed innocent, “In that group, I had the privilege of getting to know and work with Ruth Negga,” Infinity added. “Ruth, to this day, is a constant force in my life. She was also my first call to One battle Press tour because I had no idea what that meant or even what it looked like. Ruth helped me find my way on my first day on set, and I felt like I met her with faith when I did. I have to get this right so it won’t be another 40 years before they give me a chance, before they give any of us a chance.’ And I feared, ‘What if I’m not the right choice? What if someone else has to stand here? What if I don’t have what it takes?’ At that time, I was nervous because I didn’t yet understand that I had been anointed. Despite my fears, I got up here, and I started speaking. And when I felt the love and support in this room, God released something inside me.

“I knew a lot of us wanted to play this role,” Washington continued, referring to Olivia Pope, who she portrayed on… scandal From 2012 to 2018. “A lot of us got down on our knees to ask for his favor, but standing here, there was no competitive spirit in the air. You were probably cursing and talking all kinds of rubbish about me at your kitchen table. And that’s justifiable, right? You probably thought, ‘Why Kerry?’ Can I play this role? You could have done that, and you would have brought your own magic to this extraordinary opportunity. But despite all that, the energy in this room that day was all love and generosity. She wasn’t waiting for me to fail. You were praying for me to win. And I understood. I knew that if the show was successful, if I could gain any semblance of creative currency or power, I would bring it back to this room and this community.
