Maya Rudolph will make her Broadway debut Oh Mary!
the SNL The star will take on the role of Mary Todd Lincoln in Cole Escola’s play starting April 28 for eight weeks through June 20. She is the latest to take on the role, created by Escola, after current “Mary” John Cameron Mitchell, Jinx Munson, Jane Krakowski, Tituss Burgess, Betty Gilpin, and Hanna Solo.
In Escola’s play, Marie is reimagined as a wannabe cabaret star with a penchant for drinking. Escola won a Tony Award for his portrayal of Mary, and Sam Pinkleton won a Tony Award for his direction.
“Since I was a little girl, I dreamed of becoming Cole Escola,” Rudolph said. “Oh Mary! It is the funniest play I have ever seen, and I have seen a lot of plays, you would be surprised. It is a great honor to play Mary, especially after so many famous Marys have come before me. So making my Broadway debut in the role of a lifetime — as a miserable, choking, alcoholic woman — is an absolute dream come true.
Rudolph also stars looting On Apple TV+, she voices Connie, Mistress Hormone, in the animated series Big mouth.
The Broadway production has also extended its Broadway run until January 3, 2027. The play It opened on Broadway on July 11, 2024 at the Lyceum Theater, and also has an ongoing production in the West End, as well as a North American tour scheduled to launch in Hartford, Connecticut in September 2026.
