For the third year in a row, Hollywood Reporter She handed out Hollywood’s most prestigious award to a group of West Coast performers and asked them to do their best with it. The results will be on display on Thursday, March 12, when the third annual Oscar Art Exhibition opens at the Megan Mulroney Gallery in West Hollywood, and runs through March 21.

Wallet – A THR The tradition was launched at the 2023 Academy Awards — commissioning Los Angeles artists to reimagine the golden statue first painted by Cedric Gibbons in 1928. Previous versions, shown at Jeffrey Deitch and AF Projects, have given us Kenny Scharf launching the little golden man into deep space, Caron Davis recasting him as an ancient Egyptian god, and Austin Weiner turning him into a mischievous postal art project.

This year’s batch of 13 artists is no less challenging. Among the most notable pieces: glazed ceramic candlesticks evoking an oil lamp from the Bible, and a mirrored Cupid doll titled This is the spinal tapan Oscar in a wheelchair and a golden statuette sharing a still life with a loaded gun.

Participating artists include painters Francis Stark, Salomon Huerta, Alex Becerra, and Ario Toh Djogo; sculptor and ceramicist Nicky Green; fiber artist Eric Medel; Assembly artist Daniel T. Gator Lomac; Sculptor Kelly Lamb. veteran abstract artist Charles Arnoldi; collaborative duo Eddie Ruscha and Francesca Gabbiani; painter Greta Waller; Guggenheim Fellow E. Parker; and 86-year-old landscape painter Jessie Homer French.

The opening reception will take place on Thursday, March 12 from 5-8pm at Megan Mulroney, West Hollywood. The exhibition continues until March 21.
