Suriya's 'Vishwanath And Sons' is not a remake of Prithviraj Sukumaran's 'Kangaroo'; The team denies the rumours

Suriya is set to make waves in the Telugu film industry with Vishwanath And Sons, and his debut has been confirmed to have a completely original story by the talented Venky Atluri, dispelling talks of it being a remake. The film features an array of stars, including Mamitha Baiju, Raveena Tandon and Radhika Sarathkumar.

Actor Suriya’s upcoming Telugu project ‘Vishwanath And Sons’ has created a lot of buzz since its announcement. The film marks the star’s first live-action Telugu film, and soon after the project was unveiled, speculations started doing the rounds online about the film’s story.

Some social media users believe that it might be a remake of the Malayalam film ‘Kangaroo’.However, the makers have addressed these rumors now. According to a report by Telugu entertainment portal 123Telugu, the speculations surrounding the film are incorrect as the team has clarified that ‘Vishwanath And Sons’ is an original script created by director Venky Atluri.

A strong team joins the project

Aside from Suriya, the film has an interesting supporting cast.

Actress Mamitha Baiju will be seen as the heroine of the film. Actress Raveena Tandon and megastar Radhika Sarathkumar are part of the cast.

Why did the “kangaroo” comparisons start?

Rumors linking the film to “Kangaroo” began after discussions about its potential story began circulating online. The Malayalam film, directed by Raj Babu, was released in 2007.The film stars Prithviraj Sukumaran, Jayasurya and Kavya Madhavan in the lead roles.

The story revolves around a young man named Goskutty who falls in love with Jhansi and plans to marry her. However, the plot takes a dramatic turn when Jhansi’s older sister, an unwed mother, is found dead. Guskutty then raises her son and begins searching for the child’s father.Due to the similarities that were suggested in early rumours, many fans thought that Suriya’s film might follow a similar story. The team has now put all these speculations to rest.

Syria is looking forward to a strong return

Suriya is currently aiming for a strong comeback at the box office. Some of his recent projects did not achieve the expected commercial results. His last major release ‘Retro’ which was directed by Karthik Subbaraj received a disappointing response in theatres. The actor is now focusing on his upcoming projects to reconnect with the audiences and one of the most awaited projects is the film Karuppu. The project is being directed by actor-director RJ Balaji and recent reports suggest that ‘Karuppu’ is steadily moving towards completion.

The makers of the film are reportedly planning a theatrical release in April 2026.According to industry buzz, the team is aiming for April 10, 2026 as the release date. The timing can work well as it coincides with the Tamil New Year festival period and long weekend.A post from the LetsThe tweet read: “The movie #Karuppu will officially release in April! @SaiAbhyankkar confirmed the news at a recent event and things seem to be moving fast. He mentioned that the background work is going at full speed and they are recording a lot of unique sounds. He is really putting his heart into this and hopes the music truly represents their culture.”
