A man accused of killing his 10-year-old daughter in Jammu state, on suspicion that she was not his biological child, has been arrested in southeast Delhi, police said on Saturday.

The accused, Ramesh Kumar, a native of Chhatarpur district of Madhya Pradesh, was wanted in a 2016 murder case registered at Gandhi Nagar police station in Jammu, they added.

After his arrest, the accused was handed over to the investigating officer of Jammu and Kashmir Police, who formally arrested him in the case.
According to police, Kumar was working as a construction worker in Jammu when he hit her daughter on the head with a stick, suspecting that she was not his biological child, a senior police officer said.

The officer said that the girl later died from her injuries during treatment.
According to the police, after committing the crime, the accused fled Jammu and remained on the run for several years. He later started living under the alias “Rajveer” in Delhi.
They added that the arrest came after a request from the Jammu and Kashmir Police to trace the accused in the case that has been going on for ten years.

Based on the inputs regarding his stay in Sanjay Colony area of Bhatti Mines, the Delhi Police arrested him, officials said.
