Stay in your seats for the laughs and chills! The beloved Monsters Inc. The franchise adds a third film to its slate, along with a host of original projects and highly anticipated sequels like “Toy Story 5” and “The Incredibles 3.”
“Monsters Inc. 3” is in development as the studio behind the hit franchise expands its lineup of sequels while also supporting new original films. The update appeared as the company was gearing up for the release of “Hoppers.”
Along with the third Monsters film, Ono’s upcoming slate includes Ghost Market, Gatto, and what’s being described as the studio’s first musical.
“Monsters Inc. 3” and sequel plans
The Wall Street Journal reports that the third film in the popular “Monsters” series is now in the works. The report said that it is not immediately clear who will direct the next part on the big screen. The studio is also keeping details of the story secret, including the timeline.The series began with the 2001 film Monsters, Inc., which told the story of a city powered by monsters that terrorize children. Directed by Pete Docter and featuring the voices of John Goodman and Billy Crystal, the film grossed US$528.7 million worldwide. The 2013 film Monsters University, directed by Dan Scanlon, grossed $743.5 million worldwide. The world later expanded with the sequel series “Monsters at Work”, which ran for two seasons.
Original movies and box office hopper
The studio is also developing original features alongside its major sequels. One of them is next year’s “Gato,” which is described as a story about a cat thief in Venice. Another project, “Ono Ghost Market,” has reportedly been adapted from a streaming series into a movie. It is inspired by Asian myths about supernatural markets where the living and the dead interact.Pixar is also working on its first musical, collaborating with Turning Red director Domee Shi. Meanwhile, more sequels are on the way. “Toy Story 5,” scheduled for June, will see Buzz Lightyear and the bald Woody face off against a smart tablet. The Incredibles 3 is set in 2028 and will be directed by Elemental director Peter Sohn. A second “Coco” film is expected to be released in 2029.As for “Hoppers,” the animal-focused adventure grossed $3.2 million in previews. It is expected to gross between $35 million and $40 million from 4,000 theaters this weekend.
