NEW DELHI: Stressing the need to create a “correct narrative” about women’s place in society in India, Rashtra Sevika Samiti president V Shantha Kumari on Saturday said that women are of great importance in Indian culture, but some people use certain scriptures to suggest that they face exploitation in the country.

Inaugurating the two-day National Women’s Thought Leaders Conference here at Vigyan Bhavan, Kumari pointed out that women in India are playing leadership roles in various fields, from space science to Operation Sindoor.
The samiti leader said, “We all know that women are of great importance in Indian culture. Women are the foundation of society and a powerful force. So, from ‘Nari’, they can transform into ‘Narayani’.”
“However, some people, citing some scriptures and names of two people like Manu, are invoking the argument that exploitation has taken place here,” she added, stressing the need to create a correct narrative about the place of women in Indian society and culture.
The conference titled ‘Bharati-Nari to Narayani’ is being organized by Bharatiya Vidvat Parishad in collaboration with Rashtra Sevika Samiti and Charanya here at Vigyan Bhavan. Founded in 1936, the Rashtra Sevaika Samiti operates as a women’s organization parallel to the men’s Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh.
Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta also spoke at the inaugural session. She said that capable women in positions of responsibility should help other women by providing the support and opportunities needed to move forward.
Gupta said women must work together to ensure the next generation of girls have better opportunities. The Prime Minister said that the country is progressing and it is important that girls get the courage and opportunities that many women were not able to get before.
