Shakti: Threads of Feminine Power (Gallery)

The Goethe-Institut Chennai and the Alliance Française in Madras are hosting an exhibition of textiles created by five women artists of German, French and Indian origin. Rooted in Indian weaving traditions, explore feminine power through strength, intuition and healing. Workshops on natural dyeing, jhumkalm weaving and needle felting are held over the weekend.

Ranis of India (Storytelling)
Vikram Sridhar, a performative storyteller, presents an idiosyncratic collection of oral, folk, mythological and historical stories about India’s lesser-known or completely forgotten rulers. Over the course of an hour, through folk stories and songs, Sridhar discusses Indian queens, rulers, administrators and change-makers who changed history and heritage.

Wifi? Why five? (theatrical show)
This short stage show from Theater Genie showcases clever situational comedy in five hilarious individual acts. Bengal School (History March)
Chennai has been home to distinguished women in the fields of politics, health, science, education, sports and management. Join the team of The Equals Project and Madras Inherited to discover their activism, fiery speeches and decisions that played a pivotal role in shaping the city’s culture. While participants learn about women’s achievements, there will also be lively dialogue and discussions on concepts such as prejudice and perception, class and caste privilege, and recognition and remembering.

Mirror on the wall (women’s photography workshop)
How do you see yourself? This workshop explores the relationship with your body, through your own lenses, through simple activities and guided imagery prompts. The goals are simple: build awareness, notice how we see ourselves, how we have learned to view our bodies, and how we can begin to see ourselves differently. You can use your phones or any device of your choice to film.

Stories of Women and the City (Heritage March)
A private tour that highlights the stories of women, their lives, and the hidden history of the city. This walk, sponsored by the Gender and Policy Lab of the Greater Chennai Corporation, invites the city’s residents to experience heritage through women’s perspectives. The walk is hosted at the Victoria Public Hall, one of the city’s most iconic public heritage spaces, which was recently restored, and features guided storytelling focusing on women’s roles, work and contributions to the city.
