Petrol and diesel prices in major Indian cities remained steady on Thursday, although global fuel markets witnessed sharp fluctuations amid the escalating conflict in the Middle East and concerns over oil supply routes.

Fuel prices remained unchanged from yesterday.

Gasoline prices in major cities today
Among the six major metros, Hyderabad recorded the highest price of petrol in $107.46 per litre, while New Delhi remained the cheapest at 107.46 per litre $HT data showed 94.77 per litre.
The price of gasoline was $102.99 in Bengaluru, $100.80 in Chennai, $105.41 in Kolkata and $103.54 in Mumbai per litre. This means that five of the six metros reported gasoline prices above $100, with Delhi being the only exception.

Diesel prices today across the metro
Diesel prices also showed a wide spread. Hyderabad topped the chart once again at $95.70 per litre, while Delhi recorded the lowest diesel price at $87.67, according to HT data.

Diesel stopped at $90.99 in Bengaluru, 92.39 in Chennai, 92.02 in Kolkata and $90.03 in Mumbai.

Nationwide fuel prices: extremes at a glance
On a state basis, Andhra Pradesh recorded the highest price of petrol in $109.93 per litre, followed closely by Kerala at $107.48 and Telangana in $107.46.
On the other hand, Andaman and Nicobar Islands recorded the lowest price of petrol $82.46.
For diesel, Kerala topped the list with $96.38 per litre, followed by Telangana at $95.70. Andaman and Nicobar Islands once again recorded the lowest diesel price at $78.05.
Global fuel markets are under pressure
Globally, fuel prices rose overnight, as the war in the Middle East disrupted oil flows, with diesel prices in Europe jumping 27 percent since Friday, according to the Associated Press news agency. The price of benchmark Brent crude rose to above $85 a barrel earlier this week before retreating slightly.

Energy security in India
Despite global volatility, the central government sought to reassure local consumers. Petroleum Minister Hardeep Singh Puri said India has adequate energy reserves and consumers will not face any immediate shortage of petrol, diesel or cooking gas, according to an earlier HT report. Officials indicated that crude oil and fuel stocks are sufficient for about 25 days each.
