Canada has announced a new scholarship program worth up to $100 million to support Indian students. The funding is part of a new education and talent partnership between Canada and India. This announcement came last week during official talks between the two countries. The scholarship program is included under a plan called the Canada-India Talent and Innovation Strategy, which focuses on enhancing collaboration in education and research.According to an official government statement, the plan includes several steps to increase cooperation in the field of education and research between Canadian and Indian institutions.
The main part of the plan is a $100 million scholarship fund. This fund will provide up to 200 fully funded scholarships to Indian students to study in universities in Canada.Scholarship funding will be provided through the University of Toronto. It will support selected Indian students who are accepted into programs in Canadian institutions.Details such as who can apply, when to apply, and the exact rules of the scholarships have not yet been announced.
However, official data indicates that the scholarships are expected to help cover tuition fees and other academic related costs. The scholarship program is part of the Canada-India Talent and Innovation Strategy. The plan also includes 13 new partnerships between Canadian and Indian universities. These partnerships aim to increase student exchange, support joint research projects, and facilitate study for students in both countries.Besides scholarships, the plan also includes setting up three “hybrid study sites” in India. These will be joint academic centers set up by Canadian universities working with Indian institutions. The centers will focus on research and education in key areas such as technology and artificial intelligence. They will also allow students to start Canadian university courses in India and later complete their studies in Canada. The Canadian government stated that the new strategy also includes expanding research cooperation, student and faculty exchanges, and a memorandum of understanding on cooperation in creative industries such as visual arts, music, publishing and entertainment technologies.India is one of the largest source countries for international students in Canada. This new plan is seen to help Canada remain the top destination for international students and skilled talent.
