KOLKATA: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Monday made a series of promises to West Bengal government employees and job seekers at the BJP rally, stating that they would be implemented within days if his party wins the upcoming Assembly elections.

“Government employees across India are receiving salaries recommended by the 7th Pay Commission. UNI Bengal government employees are still under the 6th Pay Commission. If you help us win, the 7th Pay Commission will be implemented here within 45 days,” Shah said at a BJP Parivartan Yatra (March for Change) rally in South 24 Parganas district, where the BJP could not get a single seat in the 2021 Assembly elections.

“This is your last chance to do what you want,” Shah told party supporters.

“Mamata Banerjee is only worried about Abhishek Banerjee. She wants to make him chief minister. This is their practice,” Shah said, naming some leaders from other opposition parties – such as the Congress and DMK – whose fathers were well-known politicians.

“Your (public) names cannot appear in the TMC candidate list. BJP is the only party that is not indulging in dynastic politics. It must end,” he added.

“We will fill all the vacant posts within two months and bring back the posts for which recruitments have been stopped. Young people have waited years to get jobs and many of them have crossed the age limit. They will get a break of five years. The process will start by December 26,” Shah added.

BJP national leaders launched the first of four Parivartan Yatras on Sunday. Five more were released on Monday.

“By Parivartan we do not mean changing the Prime Minister. This task will be done by the people. Our concept of change means expelling corruption and infiltrators. Shouldn’t our borders be protected? Shouldn’t women be safe and law and order restored?” Shah said, repeatedly criticizing the Trinamool Congress and Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee over the issues.

“The communists have put pressure on Bengal and the TMC has pushed it into the dungeon of poverty. Now it is time to build Sonar Bengala (Golden Bengal) as envisioned by Rabindranath Tagore. Can Mamata Banerjee and Bhaibu (his nephew) do it?” Shah said without naming Abhishek Banerjee.

You have given 38% votes and 77 seats to BJP in 2021. Have the infiltrators left? Has corruption stopped? This will happen only when BJP forms the government with an absolute majority. Give another push. Bring in change and form the next government,” Shah said.

“I promise that no Hindu refugee will lose their citizenship. Didi has done nothing but appease the infiltrators from Bangladesh. We have created Ram Mandir Corridor, Kashi Viswanath Corridor and Mahakal Corridor. You (Banerjee) have done nothing all this time and now you are building temples. I welcome it. But what is the purpose of Babri Masjid?” Shah said, referring to the mosque similar to the Babri Mosque in Ayodhya, which TMC MLA Humayun Kabir has built in Murshidabad district.

“Humayun Kabir and Mamata Didi are part of the same coin. Mamata Banerjee had the idea of firing Kabir and making him build the mosque. Both Hindus and Muslims have realized what kind of person Mamata Banerjee is,” Shah said.

In a similar Parivartan Yatra in Howrah, Union Defense Minister Rajnath Singh also focused on infiltration.

“Why is Mamata Banerjee not taking action against intruders. Why are the borders not secure?” Singh said.

The TMC responded to Shah’s allegations about dynastic politics by publishing drawings showing BJP leaders whose fathers were in politics. BJP’s Suvendu Adhikari, whose father, Sisir Adhikari, was a TMC Lok Sabha member, was mentioned in the list.

“Shah looked desperate as he knows very well that Mamata Banerjee will not only return to power but will break the record of CPI(M) leader Jyoti Basu,” TMC state general secretary Kunal Ghosh said.

Basu became the Chief Minister of Bengal in 1977 and served for 23 years before withdrawing from office in 2000. Banerjee, on the other hand, is completing her third five-year term.
