DPI in everyday life: AI technology in India goes beyond programming

NEW DELHI: At the India AI Impact Summit 2026 that concluded this week, the interest wasn’t just about algorithms; It was also about the smell. As the world’s technology elite gathered at the Bharat Mandapam to discuss the ‘fifth industrial revolution’, India seized the opportunity to showcase its impressive digital public infrastructure as a tangible lifestyle experience. In fact, a big viral moment happened offstage, at the Bharat GI Coffee Experience Centre. Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw’s Instagram page became a digital showcase of this strategy, featuring a clip with the caption: “Bharat GI, UPI, and AI: We have become a powerful producing nation.”The post showed a high-tech “coffee kiosk” where Google CEO Sundar Pichai was seen sampling GI-tagged Malabar Arabica, paying via UPI and discussing AI-driven supply chains.

The link between a cup of coffee, the Unified Payments Interface (UPI) and geographical indications (GI) has shown that DPI is the “secret sauce” that allows artificial intelligence to expand from high-tech labs to local street kiosks, an organizer has said. The philosophy of “PMO First” has found its greatest international resonance in Brazil. During the summit, Brazilian President Lula da Silva and Prime Minister Narendra Modi presented a historic bilateral partnership. Brazil looks not only at India’s code, but at its philosophy; The two countries are working to connect UPI in India with Pix in Brazil and create a center of excellence for DPI in Brazil.
