Two security personnel were killed in a suicide attack during an intelligence-led operation in northwestern Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province on Saturday (February 21, 2026), the military’s media wing said.

Five Khawarij members of Fitna Al Khawarij were also killed in the operation in Bannu district of the province.

Fitna-al-Khawariz is the term used by the state for the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).

An intelligence-based operation was conducted on the presence of Khawariz, including a suicide bomber, when terrorists targeted a convoy of security forces.

Officials said a leading group intercepted a vehicle-borne suicide bomber, foiling his nefarious design to target innocent civilians and law enforcement personnel in Bannu city.

After the exchange of fire, five terrorists were killed by the security forces.

However, the militants rammed an explosive-laden vehicle into a vehicle of the leading contingent, killing Commanding Officer Lt Col Shahzada Gul Faraz and Sepoy Karamat Shah, the media wing said.
