At the award ceremony, Shalini Ajith Kumar spoke about her husband’s equation with Vijay and refuted rumors of a long-standing rivalry between them.
For a long time, there was a general perception of rivalry between… Vijay and Ajith Kumar. Since the duo is among the top stars of Kollywood, their fans and most people assume that there is a rivalry between them. However, when asked about them at the award ceremony, Shalini Ajith Kumar made it clear that the two enjoy a good relationship despite their films competing at the box office.

At the JFW Film Awards in Chennai, Shalini was asked to talk about Ajith and Vijay and their relationship. “It’s a good relationship; they’re both very happy with each other’s success and everything. It’s beautiful,” Shalini replied. Fans were thrilled to hear this, with one commenting: “They’re both such good souls.” Another wrote: “Glad to see her after such a long time.” But some of Ajith’s fans were not convinced, and left comments like: “But his (Vijay) fans exist, right?” Referring to competing with them and “You are giving the award to everyone but asking everyone about Thalapathy. This is not fair. Give some respect to their hard work.”
When Ajith wanted GOAT to be a fitting send-off for Vijay
Venkat Prabhu directed Ajith’s 2011 hit film Mankatha and Vijay’s 2024 film GOAT. Speaking to Ananda Vikatan in August 2024, he revealed that Ajith wished him luck for the film and asked him to make it “100 times better” than Mankatha, as it was supposed to be Vijay’s farewell film. During the film’s release, Venkat posted a throwback picture of himself with Ajith and Vijay on social media, writing, “Thank you #Thala #AK anna for the first wish for @actorvijay na, me and the #GOAT team, we all love you.”
Ajith Kumar denied rumors of rivalry with Vijay
Last year, when Ajith was honored with Padma Bhushan, there were rumors that Vijay did not congratulate him. However, his team issued a statement saying, “These allegations are completely baseless. Vijay was among the first to congratulate Ajith Sir on winning the race. Likewise, when the Padma Bhushan award was announced, Vijay Sir also congratulated him. They both share a true and sincere friendship. Therefore, there is no truth to the allegation that Vijay Sir did not extend his wishes.”
In November 2025, in an audio interview with Rangaraj Pandey, Ajith directly addressed the rivalry reports and said, “Some are making things up and creating a misconception between me and Vijay, which has led to fans clashing with each other. These miscreants better keep quiet… I have always wished well for Vijay.”
Ajith is yet to announce his next film after venturing into it Last year’s race. Vijay will contest the Tamil Nadu elections with his party TVK. His film Jana Nayagan was postponed due to censorship delay.
