After Galgotias University faced criticism at the AI Summit for showcasing a commercially available Chinese robot dog as an in-house innovation, Wipro also came under scrutiny for showcasing a similar robot. However, Wipro’s demo focused on the InspectAI solution, not the robot itself, sources familiar with the matter said.

The robot, introduced by the university as Orion, was identified by observers as Unitree Go2 developed by Chinese robotics company Unitree, sparking wider controversy at the India AI Impact Summit. On the other hand, Wipro, on its website, shared that InspectAI offers computer vision models to address the visual inspection, labeling and monitoring needs of various industries.

Speaking to the media at the exhibition, Wipro said: “TJ can go to places where it is dangerous for humans to enter. We can carry out inspections using this robot. It has a built-in artificial intelligence model that can detect harmful scenarios such as rust and prevent the possibility of accidents.”

InspectAI primarily collects data from inspection sources, including drones, magnetic crawlers, and various imaging assets such as hyperspectral cameras, LiDAR, and other advanced cameras. Operators can plan an image capture path and play back pre-recorded scan paths.

Wipro explained on its website that InspectAI provides an effective way to examine and capture valuable data from field assets. The solution helps create a digital data platform, enabling proactive asset management, while increasing overall safety on drilling rigs and other assets.

Its integrated platform can collect data from drones, cameras and crawlers. InspectAI can then process these multi-source inputs and analyze them using AI to identify anomalies related to surface conditions such as corrosion, substrate and missing parts, and detect foreign objects.
