A man has died and a teenage boy is being treated in hospital with serious injuries after he was stabbed at a Northampton skate park.

Northamptonshire Police launched a homicide investigation after emergency services were called to a park in the Ringway in the Briar Hill area on Wednesday following reports that two men had been stabbed “during an argument”.

The force said: “Sadly, and despite the best efforts of members of the public and emergency services, a man in his 20s was pronounced dead at the scene and a teenage boy was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries. He remains in a critical condition.

“Four people have been arrested in connection with this incident and are currently in police custody. Two teenage boys, a man and a woman are all from Northampton.”

DCI Tory Harrison, of the East Midlands Special Operations Unit, said: “This is a tragic incident in which one man has lost his life and a teenage boy is in a critical condition. Our thoughts are with their families at this difficult time.

“We know that incidents of this nature cause concern in the neighborhood and the wider community, and I want to offer our reassurance that we have a dedicated team of officers working to establish what happened.

“There will be high-visibility police patrols in the area to reassure the local community, and I would encourage anyone in the area with concerns to contact one of our officers who will be happy to help.

“Arrests have been made immediately and inquiries are continuing at a rapid pace, however I would still appeal for any witnesses or anyone with information to please come forward.”

Officials said there will be a police cordon at the park as the investigation continues, and several roads were affected by the incident as people were asked to avoid the area where possible.

“In addition to house-to-house enquiries, there will also be an increased police presence in the area, including high-visibility patrols to provide reassurance and support to the community,” the force said.
