US immigration officials have arrested an Indian national, Bhodela Yasashvi Kottapalli, who authorities say is facing multiple felony charges, including sexual assault of a minor. The arrests come amid an increase in immigration enforcement actions in the US and a general increase in deportations of Indian nationals.

Who is Bhodela Yasaswi Kottapalli? Indian man arrested on shocking chargesKottapalli faces charges of sexually abusing a minor under 13, in addition to charges related to theft and public disorder. In a statement shared on social media, ICE referred to him as a “criminal illegal alien from India” and verified that he was living in the United States without legal authorization.

“Bhodela Yasaswi Kottapalli, a criminal illegal alien from India, has sexual assault and robbery charges pending in New Jersey,” ICE said, adding that the charges include shoplifting, public disorderly conduct and sexual assault of a minor under 13.

The agency also released a photo of the suspect, with the label “child rapist” across the image.

Will the United States deport Bhodela Yasaswi Kottapalli?Authorities have announced that Kottapalli will be held in custody as immigration officials begin deportation proceedings against him.

“We will hold him in custody pending removal proceedings,” ICE said, adding that he would not be released pending legal proceedings connected to his deportation.

Under US law, non-citizens accused of certain criminal offenses, particularly serious crimes involving minors, may be held in immigration custody as their criminal cases progress through the justice system.
