NEW DELHI: Aam Aadmi Party leader Sanjay Singh on Friday demanded in the Rajya Sabha that the government recruits youths who have passed the armed forces recruitment examination and called for an end to the practice of soldiers serving senior officers.
Recruit youth who clear army exams, don’t force army officers into service: AAP’s Sanjay Singh on RSRaising the issue during Zero Hour in the Rajya Sabha, Singh said that between 2019 and 2022, around 1.23 lakh youths have cleared the physical and medical tests for recruitment to the Thal Army, while around 7,000 have cleared the tests for the Air Force. However, these candidates are yet to receive their joining letters.
Singh said, “Indian Army is the pride of the country. It is a young man’s dream to join the Indian Army.”
“But with great sadness, I want to tell this government that today those young men are in despair, in despair, in pain, in sorrow that they are waiting for the last letter of enlistment in the army.”
A member of the Rajya Sabha said that youth from Haryana, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Bihar and other parts of the country had enrolled with the dream of serving the country, “be it in minus 50 degrees in Siachen or 50 degrees in Jaisalmer to save Mother India”.
Singh criticized the Agnipath recruitment scheme, saying, “You have brought a scheme like Agni Veer and have worked to destroy the faith of the Indian Army and Bharat Mata.”
Referring to a recent conversation he had with Harendra Yadav, an Indian Army soldier whom he met in Jaunpur, Singh said the soldier broke down while narrating his grievances.
“His only request was that the Indian Army soldier should have a gun in his hand. Indian Army soldiers are made to protect India. But that soldier is made to bear the burden of authority. He is made to serve the country,” Singh said.
“The practice of serving authorities in the Indian Army should be abolished. Our soldiers should be respected. Our soldiers are made to protect the country, not to carry the burden of any authority,” he added.
Singh requested the government to issue joining letters to those who have cleared all the exams and recruit the youth who have cleared the exams.
