A gunman opened fire at a school in southern Thailand, taking students and teachers into custody and wounding several others, multiple reports said Wednesday.

There were reports of mass shootings in Thailand on Wednesday.The gunman, an 18-year-old, was later captured and all hostages were freed, Reuters reported.

The incident happened after gunmen opened fire at Patongprathankiriwat school in Songkhla province in southern Thailand’s Hat Yai district, a police official said.

“The culprit has been apprehended,” said Deputy Superintendent Wichian Sobun.

At least three people were reportedly injured in the incident, another police officer said.
