The 84-year-old was reported missing on Sunday after missing his regular church service. Authorities believe Guthrie was taken from his home sometime between Saturday night and Sunday morning.
On Saturday, Guthrie went to dinner with her daughter Annie and was dropped off at home by her husband Tommaso Cioni, according to the New York Times. During the search, investigators noted that time was of the essence because Guthrie would not function well without his daily medication, which was left at home.

An alleged ransom note has already arrived in the case, and a second letter also arrived today. The FBI is assisting in the matter and director Kash Patel is expected to travel to Tucson, Arizona to take stock of the situation.
However, authorities have not yet named the suspect involved in the case. In between, Owens expressed doubt and criticized Patel. He was firmly in the spotlight due to the many conspiracy theories surrounding Charlie Kirk’s murder.
Candace Owens in the Nancy Guthrie caseOwens on X wrote “It goes without saying that there’s something wrong with Savannah Guthrie’s story. And the problem isn’t Savannah Guthrie, to be clear.”
He added, “The point is Arizona is a political cartel. And Kash Patel is running there to play the hero. Pray his mother comes back and we learn what really motivated this horrific kidnapping.”
Owens’ statement about Arizona comes amid online conspiracy theories that Guthrie may have been taken by a drug cartel. A 2009 article in the Los Angeles Times even noted that Phoenix was the kidnapping capital of the United States and that most of them were cartel related. However, there is nothing but online chatter to suggest cartels were involved in Guthrie’s kidnapping.
Even as authorities search for clues, President Donald Trump remains optimistic. “We have some things, I think that will probably come out reasonably soon, that the DOJ or the FBI, or whoever it may be, will confirm. A lot has happened in the last few hours. A lot has happened in the last few hours about that terrible situation,” Trump said Friday.
Speaking about federal support on the issue, Trump added “I think we’re doing very well on this. Very well means we have some clues, I think that are very strong and I think we may have some answers.”
