: The Enforcement Directorate on Friday filed the first chargesheet against former principal of Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College Dr Sandeep Ghosh and three others in a financial corruption case that came to light days after the rape and murder of a 31-year-old postgraduate trainee doctor inside the institution in the early hours of August 9, 2024, lawyers in a special ED court said.

“The chargesheet names Ghosh and two vendors, Biplab Sinha and Suman Hazra, who supplied medical equipment to the hospital during Ghosh’s tenure after violating tender rules,” said a lawyer present in the court during the charge sheet. The company did not name the third person or entity.
The Federal Financial Crimes Investigation Agency had initiated an investigation against Ghosh and four others in November 2024 based on a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) First Information Report (FIR). The FIRT focused on the financial irregularities of the medical college. The CBI is investigating the rape and murder cases separately.
“The ED investigation revealed that substantial amounts deposited in the accounts of contractors received from RG Cor Colleges and Hospitals were systematically diverted and diverted through bearer checks issued to their close associates or in connivance with the contractors through transfers to affiliated companies and cash withdrawals were made with criminal intent and project objectives. (PoCs) as unaltered further revealed that direct PoCs were mixed with other funds, in cash. raised and routed through multiple layers of financial transactions,” the agency said.
“The investigation also revealed that the income earned by Sandeep Ghosh from the private medical practice was negligible and grossly disproportionate to the large cash deposits in his bank account. The cash receipts, falsely projected as professional fees without providing any medical services, constituted unaccounted gratification for issuing work orders to SwedLab Singh and BED-owned companies,” said Swedir Singh.
The company said it has identified and linked immovable and immovable assets of value ₹52.38 lakhs of Ghosh.
