A DOJ-released Epstein email suggests a 2012 Mar-a-Lago invitation, raising questions about Trump’s claim that he banned Epstein in the mid-2000s.

A newly released email from the Department of Justice’s Jeffrey Epstein files has reportedly sparked a row to contradict a claim that President Donald Trump has maintained about his connections to the disgraced late financier.

(AP)Among the more than 3 million pages of documents released by the DOJ in the Epstein investigation, one email appears to show that Jeffrey Epstein was sent an invitation to visit Mar-a-Lago in 2012. Trump on Epstein’s ban from Mar-a-LagoTrump has repeatedly said he cut ties with Epstein and banned him from Mar-a-Lago because Epstein “stolen” employees. Epstein specifically targeted young women from the club’s spa and hired them for his own purposes, Trump said.

“He stole people who worked for me,” Trump said in July 2025. “I said, ‘Never do that again.’ He did it again, and I kicked him out, persona non grata.”

The Palm Beach Post reported that Trump and Epstein lost touch in 2004 after a dispute in which Trump outbid Epstein in a bankruptcy auction for a beachfront estate. Trump also said he “didn’t get a chance to go to Epstein’s Island.”
