Tamilga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK) chief and actor Vijay said in Chennai on Monday that his party will end the two-way politics between Tamil Nadu’s Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) and All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK).

victoryIn his 17-minute speech at the party’s third anniversary celebrations, Vijay said the DMK stood for “injustice, anarchy and mischief” and labeled the AIADM as a “corrupt force” allegedly loyal to the BJP.

“People talk about a triangular or four-cornered contest. One is represented by the TVK supported by the people, the second is the DMK, and the third is the BJP and its many allies. Only the TVK, which is a people power alone can defeat the DMK,” Vijay said.

Responding to criticism of his absence from the field, Vijay said, “Those who say ‘Hey Vijay, come out of the house’, I will say wait boss, there is Vijay and VG in every house, they will all come out with their voter ID on polling day and stand in front of the polling station, then vote.”

Vijay drew a parallel between himself and AIADMK founder and former Chief Minister MG Ramachandran (MGR). Recalling a 1977 interview in which MGR expressed disbelief that then chief minister and DMK patriarch M Karunanidhi was once possessed by stalwarts like K Kamaraj and CN Annadurai, Vijay made similar remarks about AIADMK chief Edappadi Palaniswami (EPS) and chief minister MK Stalin.

He compared the 2026 assembly elections with the 1977 elections, which resulted in MGR’s victory over the ruling DMK.

“TVK is the movement that will take DMK. DMK deployed several tactics to oppose MGR. They even mocked Kamaraj. Decades have passed but their strategy remains the same,” Vijay said.

He also dismissed opinion polls that put TVK at between 15-20% in its first election and added that the party symbol “whistle” was reaching the people of the state.

“We are the whistle blowers in Tamil Nadu. Only if we blow loudly will the evil forces and corrupt forces spread. Then TVK will emerge as the ruling party. I am with you and the people are with us. Be confident, victory is ours,” he said.

Vijay also referred to a comment made by Stalin in 2022, in which he expressed dismay at the behavior of some of his cabinet ministers, which he said was giving him “sleepless nights”.

“Wake up Stalin and ask him who he will vote for. Then, he will whistle. The truth always comes out when you wake up someone who is sleeping,” said Vijay.

Reacting to Vijay’s comments about Stalin, DMK spokesperson TKS Elangovan said that the idea of Stalin asking people to vote for TVK was “a fantastic brainchild of Vijay.”
