Prime Minister Narendra Modi confirmed and welcomed the trade deal with the US on Monday. PM Mod’s post on X comes shortly after US President Donald Trump Announced that the trade agreement between India and Washington has been sealed.

On Monday night, Trump took to Truth Social to announce that India and the US had sealed a trade deal. The deal, which was forged after months of negotiations, comes amid tariff tensions between the two partners. (DPR PMO)”Wonderful to speak with my dear friend President Trump today. “President Trump’s leadership is vital for global peace, stability and prosperity. India fully supports his efforts for peace. I look forward to working closely with him to take our partnership to unprecedented heights,” the Indian PM further added in his social media post.

On Monday night, Trump took to Truth Social to announce that India and the US had sealed a trade deal. The deal, which was forged after months of negotiations, comes amid tariff tensions between the two partners.

India was initially hit with a 25 percent tariff from the US, which was later raised to 50 percent due to Russian oil purchases. However, with a trade deal now in place between Washington and New Delhi, the reciprocal tariff rate stands at a solid 18 percent.

Trump’s announcement on Truth Social comes right after the newly appointed US ambassador to India Sergio Gore It is said that there was a phone conversation between Trump and Modi.

What Trump said about the India-US deal”It was an honor to speak with Prime Minister Modi of India this morning. He is one of my greatest friends and, a strong and respected leader of his country. We talked about many things, including trade and ending the wars with Russia and Ukraine. He has agreed to stop buying Russian oil and buy more from the United States and, potentially, Venezuela,” Trump wrote on social media.

Trump also added that India will reduce its tariff and non-tariff barriers against US goods to zero and pledge to buy US energy, technology, agricultural products, coal and other goods worth more than $500 billion as part of the new deal.
