US President Donald Trump announced in a social media post that the US and India had “agreed” on a deal with India. Here’s his full post about the deal and tariffs:
On Truth Social, Trump wrote: “It was an honor to speak with PM Modi of India this morning. He is one of my greatest friends and a strong and respected leader of his country. We talked about many issues, including trade, and ending the wars with Russia and Ukraine. He has agreed to stop buying Russian oil and buy more from the US, Venezuela.”

He added, “This will help end the war in Ukraine, which is going on now, killing thousands every week! Out of friendship and respect for Prime Minister Modi and at his request, effective immediately, we have agreed to a trade agreement between the US and India, whereby the US will charge a reduced reciprocal tariff, they will reduce their tariff from 1% to 28% going forward. And non-tariff barriers against the US, 500 billion The Prime Minister will be even stronger without US energy, technology, agriculture, coal in dollars, which I have told the two Prime Ministers to your attention!”
