Marius Borg Hoiby, the son of Norway’s crown princess, has been detained by Norwegian police on new criminal charges, days before his attack trial later this week. The new charges include suspicion of causing bodily harm and brandishing a knife, among others.

What is the new complaint?Hoiby was arrested on several charges, including suspicion of causing bodily harm, wielding a knife and breaching the ban, according to police, Reuters reported.
Following the complaint, police said they would seek permission from a judge to keep Hoiby in their custody for the next four weeks.
So far, he is awaiting trial, which begins Tuesday, on four counts of rape, domestic violence, assault and drug possession. With these new charges, Hoiby could face additional charges on top of the 38 counts he currently faces.

What were the previous complaints?The case against Hoiby began in 2024 when police named him as a suspect in a case of physical abuse against a woman he was having an affair with.
Following charges, he admitted causing bodily harm while under the influence of cocaine and alcohol. He also admitted to damaging her apartment and said he “regretted his actions.”

Although Hoeby pleaded guilty to the lesser charge, he pleaded not guilty to the rape and domestic violence charges, the report cited his lawyer as saying. The charges can carry up to 10 years in prison if convicted. The crown princess’s son plans to give a detailed explanation of the crime during his trial, which runs until March 19.
