The Justice Department said Friday it has released thousands of files on sex financier and convicted trafficker Jeffrey Epstein. Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanch confirmed the release under the Epstein Files Transparency Act. According to the AP’s latest update, the new release prompted the resignation of a top Slovakian official. Furthermore, in Britain, former Prince Andrew has been urged to share with authorities what he knows about his long friendship with Epstein.
Britain’s Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, formerly known as Prince Andrew, has called for cooperation with authorities about Epstein’s links. (AP)Slovakian official resignsOn Saturday, the Prime Minister of Slovakia accepted the resignation of an official in Miroslav Lajcak. Lajcak serves as the President of the United Nations General Assembly once a year. Although Lajcak was not charged with wrongdoing, he resigned his position after photos and emails were released that showed him meeting Epstein in the years after Epstein’s release from prison.
Lajcak said his contact with Epstein was part of his diplomatic duties. Calls for his resignation came from the opposition and nationalist partners in Fico’s ruling coalition.
Meanwhile, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer on Saturday urged former Prince Andrew to tell American investigators anything he knows about Epstein’s activities. The former prince has ignored requests by members of the US House Oversight Committee for a “recorded interview” about his “longtime friendship” with Epstein.
Photographs that appear to show Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor on all fours over a woman lying on the ground are included in the Epstein files recently released by the US Department of Justice. Last month, another set of Epstein documents released by US authorities showed Andrew leaning on the laps of five women at Sandringham, a royal estate in Norfolk. Although Andrew has consistently denied any wrongdoing, it remains unclear when and where the images were captured.
More detailsPresident Donald Trump’s Justice Department said it will release more than 3 million pages of documents, including more than 2,000 videos and 180,000 images, under a law intended to release most of the material it has gathered in a two-decade investigation involving the wealthy financier.
The files posted on the department’s website included documents of Epstein’s friendship with Mountbatten-Windsor and documents of Epstein’s email correspondence with political, business and philanthropic figures such as one-time Trump adviser Steve Bannon, New York Giants co-owner Steve Tisch and billionaires.
The new documents also reveal that Epstein talked about introducing a Russian woman to Andrew. In a 2010 email addressed to “The Duke,” Epstein described the 26-year-old as “smart and beautiful.”
