Kauvery Hospital, Vadapalani, has performed a bloodless combined cardiac surgery on a 69-year-old man with the rare Bombay blood group, a press release said.

The patient underwent aortic valve replacement and coronary artery bypass surgery without any blood transfusion and is recovering well.

The case was challenging due to critical aortic valve narrowing, significant coronary blockages, and the scarcity of compatible blood.

The high-risk procedure was carried out using strict blood conservation protocols by a multidisciplinary team led by Anbarasu Mohanraj, clinical lead and senior consultant – cardiovascular and thoracic surgery at the hospital, the release said.
