Baton Rouge rapper, Kevin Gates, caused quite a stir Wednesday by opening up about some of his painful experiences in a freewheeling interview with Shannon Sharpe on the ‘Club Sha Shaw’ podcast.

The rapper described feeling suicidal and depressed when the Covid-19 pandemic hit around 2020. He told Sharp that he even considered shooting himself in the head for the struggle. Gates revealed that he completely lost the will to live during that episode.
“I don’t want to live,” he said. “I’ve shot myself in the head before. I got shot in the head, homie. I don’t want to live. I’m fucked. I can show you the video, I showed my wife. I’m holding my baby, she’ll tell you, what was I doing when I was holding my baby? Tears coming out of my mouth. I know I want to get my anxiety out.”
“Won’t anyone miss me anyway, I felt the same way. And it wasn’t that long ago. This was, 2020? Yes, 2020,” he continued. “I’m holding my child, I’m thinking, ‘Man, this is going to be the last time they ever see me.’ ‘Cause I don’t remember where you are [say]’I’m going to kill myself.’
“Nah, you’re just supposed to go do it. That’s how I feel about it,” he said. “You’ll find me somewhere stressed out. Stanking. I don’t do that, that’s horseplay, talking, ‘I’m going to kill myself.’ You want attention.”

Gates first opened up about his experiences of being bullied in a 2021 interview on ‘Hotboxin’ with Mike Tyson.’ She told Sharp that she was threatened when she disclosed her experiences of abuse. Gates then added that the man had died, noting, “He would never do this to anyone again.”
