Goalkeeper Alireza Beiranvand made seven saves during Sunday’s goalless draw between Iran and Belgium in the FIFA World Cup Finals. Iran was unable to find a way past Belgium even after reducing the number of Red Devils players to 10 players in the second half.The result keeps Iran’s hopes of reaching the knockout stage alive.After the match at Sophie Stadium, Iran left a handwritten note in the locker room thanking Los Angeles for hosting them during the tournament. The Iranian Football Federation later issued the memorandum.Los Angeles has hosted both of Iran’s Group G matches so far. The team would return to its base in Tijuana between matches.Iran is based in Tijuana and they travel to the United States for the matches due to restrictions related to their stay in the country.

Many team members and officials were also prevented from entering.US officials said the team’s travel arrangements are still under review, while discussions about easing some restrictions are ongoing.“From ancient Persia thousands of years ago to civilized Iran today, the spirit of Iran remains alive and steadfast,” the memo said.

“Thank you, Los Angeles, for your hospitality,” she continued.

“We came to Los Angeles with pride, competed with honor, and left with dignity.”The message also thanked the Iranian fans who gave their “heart, voice and soul” during the two matches and ended with a call for peace, respect and friendship among all nations.Iran, which drew 2-2 with New Zealand in its opening match at Sophie Stadium, will play its final Group G match against Egypt in Seattle.After obtaining two points from two matches, Iran realizes that achieving a positive result against group leaders Egypt may be enough to secure their place in the knockout rounds for the first time.
